February, 2005 Posted by Hello

In 1975, Duane Crone made the transition from New Brunswick farm-boy to busker on the streets of Vancouver, B.C. Duane played guitar on Mecca Normal's 1997 album Who Shot Elvis, released by Matador Records. Jean Smith of Mecca Normal produced Duane's first album Give Me A Call" in 1997 and released it on her label Smarten Up! Records. In 2003, the title track of the album was remixed in Austin, Texas by Lourdes Perez for inclusion in the film "Pajaros de otro canto" (the free bird agreement) and on the soundtrack CD.

Duane Crone's second album LOVE STARTS SHINING THROUGH is out now, available directly from Duane at frozencrow@yahoo.ca

After more than twenty years of solo voice and guitar performance of his songs, Duane has utilized studio technology to bring the listener the "band playing in his head". Although he would, of course, still prefer to record with Willie Nelson and his band. :)

Duane is currently working at a gold mine near the Arctic Circle in Nunavut.

RADIO PLAY:
Recently playlisted in Germany, France, Australia, Denmark and the USA.
Duane suggests track 10 HAPPY EX for initial airplay. Track 3 YOU KNOW has a Christmas tie-in.

LYRICS:
Just Another Cowboy

I'm just another cowboy on this trail that leads to hell
There's times when I felt righteous, but then I always fell
And I'm just another cowboy who finally bit the dust
Yes, I'm just another drifter shot down by the gun of lust
And I'm trapped within the cross fire
The flames are getting higher and higher
It's got so bad, I'm on my knees
Begging, crying, Please don't throw me away

Twenty days I been ridin'
Just to try and clear my head
I'm strong enough to see her now
But stay out of her bed
She's surrounded when I enter
By a drunken loud-mouth crew
I turn a way, she calls my name
Says, Boy you're overdue
Her voice is like the hammer being cocked upon the gun
My knees are weak, her lips touch my cheek
She knows that she has won, that she has won

Cattle, guns and horse never caused me any grief
It's bars and booze and women from which I need relief
My will goes out the window as she's taking off my spurs
Her magic's done, I cannot run
Till morning I am her, I am all hers

Freeman Jones

Fifteen years short of a century
But Freeman Jones is a friend to me
I pray that I'll be as alive
Or half as young at eighty-five
To some he's just an aged man
To cheat and slander when they can
No one would even visit him
But he still thinks the world of them

To just be old is not to die
It's loneliness that makes him cry
Most of his friends he has out-lived
But he still has a lot to give
From him there is a lot to learn
He's tasted love and felt the burn
And though you say his heart is old
It's always warm and never cold

Freeman since you're in my memory
I'll take you on the road with me
I appreciate the seed you've sown
I'll try to see you're not alone

So when you get a minute
Just pick up your phone
Dial 392-6631
And ask for Freeman Jones

You Know

Christmas has come
I'm all alone
God how I miss you
Afraid to phone

You know I love
You know I love you you you you

I see the lights
I feel the snow
Wishing you'd never
Asked me to go

Christmas has gone
Still by myself
Can't get the spirit
With anyone else

Happy Ex

I'm so happy since you set me free
That all my tears ran out of me
Yeah, it's so great being all alone
My eyes won't sleep, but they're dry as a bone

Do you recall when we were man and wife?
To think I thought that that was life!
But now there's so much more to do
I hardly even think of you

Cause I can stare at the walls -- talk to the cat
Play it a song. Give it a pat.
I can stare out the window -- study the tree
Gee it's a trip how great life can be

You see I've handled loneliness well
I bet you thought it would be hell
Knew all along that I'd be fine
Sure hope your life is as happy as mine

I cannot spend my life crying
About the way things might have been

Tribal Intuition

Intuition knew we would be
You are -- I am -- two of a kind
We're connected -- together and free
In -- not of -- a dying world
Perpetual death, perpetual birth
Ashes rise and walk the earth

Understanding, we are committed
To live -- to feel -- all level love
We will always be each other's rock
Love is our way to be alive
Alone together -- Together apart
Voice a choice. Share a heart

I want this to work
I need this to work
Nobody's here
To help me die
As always -- I'll have to do it alone

Street Singer

I took my wife and brought her to the city
Dreaming of big money and wildly flashing lights
A month's gone by -- no job -- what a pity
To come 4000 miles -- For hungry days and nights

So I'm gonna take my guitar
And I'm gonna hit your streets
With its case a'laying open
Throw your spare change at my feet
You may say I am a beggar scraping nickels and dimes
But I'd rather beg than starve here any time

The town we left was small with not much to do
But people stuck together -- friends weren't hard to find
If you were dying here nobody'd stop to help you
They'd just rush on by and leave you there behind

So if you're walking down that street and hear me singing
Stop and listen, it might help you through your day
And if you'd walk an extra block to keep my guitar out of hock
Forget about your bus and throw those quarters my way

Wife Song

I'm happy you're happy living life where you belong
Be my wife -- share my life -- believe in me and I'll be strong
Even when you feel you cannot touch me
Reach a bit and I'll be there beside you
Know my love is real when you can't see
Trust a bit and I'll be there to guide you

Late nights -- bright lights -- time to be alone so rare
One more song -- seems too long crying while the music blares
Try to realize I'm still your lover
Even while the music plays
See it in my eyes, there is no other
Life for me but on this stage

The song's through, but it's you
That gives me more than any crowd
It's worthwhile if you smile
Tell me that I've made you proud
Just as long as we are still together
After everybody's gone
I'll leave it up to God to decide whether
The show will go on -- The show will go on

She's So Many Women

One's a mountain woman with the innocence of a child
One's the wildest woman that ever did go wild
One's the surest woman this man has ever seen
One's the insecurest little girl that's ever been

One's a fleeting lover just craving to roam
One's only wish to have a home
One knows the love I talk about
One's only goal -- to shut me out

Well she's so many women that it's hard to tell
If our life together would be heaven or be hell
Will the one that holds her love for me
Be stronger than them all
Or would we soar awhile together
Then just fall

Lord how I love her, is she in your plan for me?
If there's any way to reach her, let it be
She's a special creation possessing a beauty that's rare
Don't let me lose her Lord, she's an answer to my prayer

Flow

F is for fear
L is for love
O stands for obey
W is for worship -- So now you know
How to let your life flow

Let it flow, let it flow
All this worrying don't pay
Let it flow, let it flow
Soon all this will fade away

I'd been caught in the madness
Couldn't believe what I don't know
Then I was shown that I know nothing
And I was told let your life flow

Unseen forces getting stronger
Belief and faith they grow
Must ya stall it any longer?
Don't fight it, let it flow

Inside Job

It was an inside job
Another stab to the heart
It was an inside job
Another stab to the heart

Put down for making change
When making change is what it's all about
I'll change me -- you change you
Once everybody's changing
Love starts shining through
Love starts shining through

It is an inside job
Another change of the heart
It is an inside job
Another change of the heart

Now if the rich take less
And the poor take more
You give it a little time
There won't be no rich and poor

What Do I Owe?

Law binds the hands of justice
Illusion conceals the truth
Riding my train of troubles
Aged as a result of youth
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?

Imprisoned by longings for freedom
Condemned to be free of my life
Blessed by the love of a woman
Cursed by the silence of God
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?

It's money that keeps the bombs falling
Explosions of hatred and greed
Riding the whore of big business
We don't even see who we kill
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?

The fight for your life will begin in the streets
The enemy comes from within
Love and respect no longer compute
The machine can't give back what it's taken
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?
What do I owe you for? What do I owe?

Remember

We think we are awakening
We feel we'll always be in touch
Desire is for doing what you want
Will is for doing what you don't...
Will is for doing what you don't want to

Remember (think)
Remember (feel)
Remember (be)
Remember (real)
Remember Remember

Essences of this world's imprisoned souls
Float away to feed a hungry moon
Concentrate, maybe we'll remember
Who we are and why we're here at all
Who we are and why we're here at all

Running naked before it was a sin
Feeling Earth's vibration through our toes
Willing prisoners of adult illusions
Must remember what the child knows
We must remember what the child knows
